OCI Processing Change Alert - Original US/Foreign Passport
Effective June 15, 2011, original US/Foreign passport will not be required at the time of submission of the initial OCI application to Travisa Outsourcing. Instead, applicants will be alerted by Travisa Outsourcing when their OCI card is ready and they will need to provide their original US/Foreign passport only at that time. Advisory regarding outsourcing of OCI Service
Consulate General of India, Houston has outsourced the handling of OCI applications to M/s Travisa Outsourcing. The outsourcing arrangement in respect of the areas falling under the consular jurisdiction of Consulate General of India, Houston (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas) has come into effect from 15th March, 2011. M/s Travisa Outsourcing have started receiving OCI applications with effect from 15th March, 2011. All applications received by Travisa Outsourcing will be acknowledged to the applicants by the next working day. For detailed guidelines on submitting the applications, documentation requirements and fee etc., kindly visit the following link: www.travisaoci.comThe outsourcing arrangement will not affect the applicants whose applications are already under process. Such applicants will continue to deal directly with the Consulate, including submission of additional documents and passports at the following address: However, the applicants whose applications have been returned by the Consulate on account of any deficiency will have to resubmit the application to M/s Travisa (and not to Consulate General of India, Houston) after addressing the deficiencies. OCI cards will be issued by the Consulate General of India to all OCI applicants whose applications have already been processed by us. You can check the status of OCI applications online by clicking: Check OCI Status Online. After seeing the online status: Documents Received at Houston on ______ (date will be shown), send your Original US Passport for OCI stamping. Please quote your “OCI File No.” while sending the US passport. It will take about 30-40 days for us to return your US passport, along with U visa and OCI card through Travisa Outsourcing. |

NOTICE
While traveling to India OCI Card holders must carry the OCI Card as well as their nationality passport on which “U” Visa has been affixed. In case the OCI Card holder has obtained new passport after expiry of the validity of the passport on which “U” Visa had been affixed, he/she must carry both the old and the new passport along with the OCI Card for entry into India. To transfer the visa to a new passport, apply for OCI Miscellaneous Services as per details on webpage. OCI Miscellaneous Services have been introduced for re-issue of OCI Registration Card and “U” Visa in case of new passport, loss or damage of OCI Registration Card/“U” Visa or changes in personal particulars. |

PROCESSING TIME FOR OCI APPLICATIONS
Handling of OCI applications has been outsourced to M/s Travisa Outsourcing since 15th March 2011. Travisa Outsourcing scrutinizes and sends the applications to the Consulate for processing. This is time consuming, considering that each case requires the clearance of the authorities concerned in India and after OCI is ‘granted’, it takes some time to receive the documents from India, namely ‘U’ visa sticker and OCI card The Consulate is making its best efforts to process each OCI application swiftly so that the turnaround time after submitting the application with Travisa is 30 to 40 days. |
